Relationships in Isolation and How Hypnosis Can Help

The coronavirus outbreak is leading to big changes in the way we live our
everyday lives. Our relationships are hugely important to us just at a time when they are being placed under the most intense pressure.

Relationships are not built on the expectation that you’ll be spending all day, every day with that person. If you’re both working from home, with nowhere to go in the evenings, there’s a chance you may experience some friction. Perhaps it’s happening already?

This is perfectly normal, particularly given the increased stress we’re all under right now. But, as we could be in this predicament for a while yet, it’s worth taking some steps to ensure we get through this period with our relationships intact.

We may even come out the other side stronger!

Try giving these strategies a go:

  1. Create the love with your differences
    Write a list of the positive differences between you and your partner. This can help you begin to appreciate each other for things you may not notice in your everyday interactions. See how you two can use your individual strengths to build on each others talents rather than putting one another down.
  2. No criticisms/No put-downs
    When aggravations arise between you, or one is criticizing the other, say something silly as a sort of lighthearted distraction. Your partner will be so taken aback, it will throw them, and may even make them laugh. But, most importantly, it will break the tension and allow you to see how petty the confrontation may be.
  3. Cuddle Time
    Find time in the day just for being close with one another, with no further expectation. This will bring you both back down to a state of simple calmness that may escape you in these times. You could even pair this with a movie or some comedy to additionally loosen those nerves!
  4. Allow the Dreams
    Encourage your partner to fulfill their dreams and ask them to allow you to achieve yours, too. When you both feel free take the time to discuss these more complex goals for the future. Having this sort of discussion will not only be therapeutic but it will bring you both into a more positive mindset.
  5. Discuss Rather Than Argue
    Turn irritating comments into humor – see the situation as amusing and unnecessary in order to calm yourself down. Change the tone into something more manageable and voice your frustrations in a logical manner rather than throwing insults.
  6. Learn To Listen
    Make a conscious effort to really listen to what your partner has to say. Sometimes we get so caught up with worrying about our own future we may not take the time to realize our partner is going through these same sorts of thoughts in their own inner monologue. Understanding how they’re feeling may bring common ground which the two of you can bond over.
  7. Love What Is Actually Real
    Don’t set up your partner to fail by having expectations of them which are too high. Understand that they’re human too and will make mistakes just as you do. Making changes to one’s actions is something we all do to better ourselves but you should never expect your partner to change who they are as their core self. Love who they are, including those mistakes, because that’s what makes them genuine.
